MUDr. Martin Hložánek, Ph.D., FEBO

MUDr. Martin Hložánek graduated from the Second Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. In 2002, he passed his first-level certification exam in ophthalmology, and in 2013, he passed the European ophthalmology exams in Paris, becoming a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). In 2016, he defended his dissertation and earned his Ph.D. Since graduating in 1999, he has worked at the Eye Clinic of Motol University Hospital in Prague, and then from 2014 to 2020 at the Eye Clinic of Královské Vinohrady University Hospital. In 2020, he returned to the Eye Clinic for Children and Adults at the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and Motol University Hospital as its head, where he continues to work today. He has worked as an external consultant at a number of institutions and currently works as an external surgeon at the Ofta Eye Center in Pilsen and the ophthalmology department of Lužická Hospital in Rumburk.

Dr. Hložánek has completed study internships at several prestigious institutions (Erasmus Medical Center Eye Clinic in Rotterdam, Eye Institute in Ottawa, Canada, Texas Medical Center Eye Clinic in Houston, USA, Glaukomzentrum Mainz, Eye Clinic of the University of Mainz in Germany). He is a co-author of the introduction of congenital cataract screening in the Czech Republic, a co-investigator of several grants, and has participated in several international clinical studies.

He focuses primarily on eye diseases in children, especially pediatric cataracts. He is a member of several Czech and international ophthalmological societies, and in addition to the CSRCS, he is also a member of the committee of the Czech Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabology.
