Cataract School

Basic info about the event

The Cataract School for Ophthalmologists is an intensive, week-long educational program led by leading experts in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. It is primarily intended for ophthalmologists who are entering the field of intraocular surgery or those who wish to expand and deepen their practical experience with modern surgical techniques and technologies. The main objective of the program is to provide a comprehensive overview of the entire issue of cataracts – from precise preoperative examination and correct indication, through the surgical procedure itself, to quality care in the postoperative period.

An important part of the training consists of practical blocks, including wet lab sessions led by experienced instructors, training in the handling of intraocular lenses, working with surgical simulators, and observing live surgeries. The program is traditionally complemented by a social component, which allows for informal sharing of experiences and networking.

The structure of the Cataract School combines theoretical lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive discussions with renowned experts. Participants will gain a deep understanding of current surgical techniques, intraocular lens selection methods, modern imaging procedures for optimizing surgical planning, and will learn about procedures for dealing with complications or non-standard clinical situations. Emphasis is placed on understanding the principles of safe, effective, and modern surgical care and their application in everyday clinical practice.

The program also includes case studies demonstrating real clinical scenarios, which allow for detailed discussion of decision-making algorithms and surgical strategies. Participants thus gain not only a solid theoretical foundation, but also insight into the thought processes of experienced surgeons.

The Cataract School for Ophthalmologists supports long-term professional growth, inspires further education, and creates space for sharing experiences and establishing professional contacts. It is considered an important part of continuing education in ophthalmology and offers valuable benefits to both novice and experienced surgeons.

The Cataract School is organized by ČSRKCH in cooperation with Alcon, usually in the fall of each year. Current information about the program, registration, and organizational guidelines are regularly published on the official website of the event.
